Pieces

A bite, a sliver, blunt excision

With dire and perverse precision

With single minded dull intent

With every bit I am more hollow, spent

Here comes the mouth, hungry maw

It wants emotion, love, hope raw

Here comes in askance, innocence

And takes, and rips, incensed

Splayed fingers gripping tired wrists

Sweat, clawing for a piece, cracks, twists

With every bit and every byte

Each query, ping, response, despite

A firewall of will, of empathy decline

It takes, one piece by fucking piece, my mind

I am spread thin like a mummy on a cross

I'm spent, a bag of air, torn and tossed

A hole, a shadow, pale imprint

I gave it all in crazy sprint

I gave away my last resort

My words, and final sharp retort

When nothing's left, bills paid

I wonder what could have remained...
